Dreams Of Cimmeria

from 2016: A Strange Odyssey by Jack Mythos

about

This song was inspired by reading an article on Robert E. Howard where he discusses that the ideas for his fantasy stories where all inspired by reoccurring dreams wherein he was a Barbarian in a fantastical world. My deep affinitty for Howards work combined with a late-night watching of Brazil meant that I decided to combine that fact with my own (in the words of Sage Francis) 'complicated case of escapism' to make this song.

lyrics

Day One:
The world grows black beneath my eyelids
Then Arcadia shines below the drawbridge
Rome burns outside my window
While Athens thrives within my pillow
Spread my wings; cast shadows over sandworms
Separating each Glass Metropolis we've burned
I'll be a crow over crowthorne
While sharing bliss with the uninformed's
Grounded view of unknowing automatons devotion
I'm set adrift with glorious omnipotence
In this land of perpetual December
Snowfalls over idealistic textures
There's a tree-house overlooking infinity
There's a quiet bar where I drink with divinity
I can be immortal or I can be the sole innovation
I can leave to seek infinite heavens
I Saw the light when darkness developed
I can't remember if I perished

Is the astral world the deception?
There's a forest with tree's over looking heaven
Is the mechanical world the deception?
There's a city with smog overshadowing heaven
Is the astral world the deception?
There's a forest with tree's over looking heaven
Is the mechanical world the deception?
There's a city with smog overshadowing heaven

King where the gods wandered well
Outcast where the mortals dwell
Day two
I pace through my fantasies as a phantom
I walk through fire for shadowed sanctum
Now it's Nostalgia
And I spell in with the N I stole from Necromancer
Aesop's prove their virtue in fantasy
And None Shall Pass through hollow realities
I trade a stale road for an infested forest
I am the king of this psychedelic fortress
This prison outside time and space
Where I built an idealic landscape
Free from vultures with serpent movements
Tory anarchism with a Tolkeinesc influence
For as I labour over machinery
Earth's medusa's slip inside the scenery
Rage against this dying light
Holding onto the underworld for dear life

Is the astral world the deception?
There's a forest with tree's over looking heaven
Is the mechanical world the deception?
There's a city with smog overshadowing heaven
Is the astral world the deception?
There's a forest with tree's over looking heaven
Is the mechanical world the deception?
There's a city with smog overshadowing heaven

Day five
The huts turn to palaces
The village rivers bleed malice
The palaces turn to skyscrapers
The city becomes a danger
My disciples grow makeshift personas
Where they destroy my statues out of honour
So fallen angels I ciphered with have unfurled
Evil is let loose onto a sleeping world
My tears form an ocean
That drowns cardboard cities in commotion
I awaken as every city crumbles
And I'm again lost in this concrete jungle
Overlooking fragmented concrete
I am Celephais; the sun lays dead in the streets
Last train to Metropolis
Where magicians go to die
Last train to the rocket-ship
Which falls alongside the sky

Is the astral world the deception?
There's a forest with tree's over looking heaven
Is the mechanical world the deception?
There's a city with smog overshadowing heaven
Is the astral world the deception?
There's a forest with tree's over looking heaven
Is the mechanical world the deception?
There's a city with smog overshadowing heaven
(End)
